On Tuesday 6 April 2021 it was announced that a PNG National, who had been transferred to Queensland for treatment, had died of COVID complications in a hospital north of Brisbane. This morning it was announced that the man was Malcolm ‘Kela’ Smith. Mal Smith was a graduate with OTU Class 3/66. He had spent most of the last 50 years in PNG running a successful business and had been a Provincial Governor. His body is being repatriated to PNG for burial. Details of the funeral will be advised when known.
Coincidentally, an article for almost completed The Scheyvillian 1 of 2021, under the ‘Whatever Happened To’ section, had been prepared. This will now feature under the ‘Vale’ section.
