The Deadly Game of Marbles

Gentlemen,

The following message has been received from Bill Moss (OTU 1/70):

The Scheyvillian No.2 2021 included a report on the Class 1/70 postponed 50th Anniversary Reunion held in Canberra over the Anzac Day weekend in 2021.  As described in that report, Class 1/70 commissioned a performance titled “The Deadly Game of Marbles”, a re-enactment of the passing of the National Service Act in November 1964 based on the Hansard transcripts.  The re-enactment was performed by an outstanding cast of local actors and included four songs especially written for the performance.  On Friday 23 April, all Reunion attendees together with special guests for the evening, Sir Peter Cosgrove (former CDF and former Governor General) and Lady Lynne Cosgrove participated in the performance as enthusiastic and rowdy back benchers in the House of Representatives chamber of Old Parliament House, the very chamber in which the actual events took place.

Since the National Service Act 1964 was the start of the Army journey for all Vietnam-era conscripts, the performance is especially relevant for all OTU Association members.  It was filmed and a video is available for viewing/download from this Dropbox link https://www.dropbox.com/t/i0yQMRk7g4JhogH7 .  The downloaded file gives best resolution but, since this is a large (8.8GB) file, downloading requires some patience depending on your internet connection.  You do not need to be a Dropbox subscriber to access the link, which will expire on 16 February 2022.

Well worth a look for all Scheyvillians.
