OTU VICTORIAN CHAPTER – PARTICIPATION IN 2023 ANZAC DAY MARCH TO THE

 SHRINE OF REMEMBRANCE

Dear Victorian Scheyvillian, the OTU Association will, once again, be parading as a separate unit in this year’s ANZAC Day march to Melbourne’s Shrine of Remembrance. To all Scheyvillians the march presents an opportunity to be part of this great Australian tradition.

We would be keen indeed to have you join us.

The details are as follows: –

Dress. Suit/Jacket and tie – preferably the OTU tie if possible.

Medals. Please wear all medals you have been awarded.

Assembly. According to the RSL we are to assemble on the South side of Flinders Street at the Western side of Swanston Street at 0915 hrs for 0952 hrs march off.

It is strongly urged we gather at the assembly point by 0900 hrs as the actual march off time has been significantly ahead of that stipulated in recent years.

RSL Marshals will direct you to the precise location. Our contingent will be behind the National Servicemen’s Association.

After the March. We will once again be a having mixed get together after the march. This will be held at the RACV Bistro, RACV Club, 501 Bourke St, Melbourne 1200 hrs for 1230 hrs. (Tel 9944 8888). Enter via the front door. Tram No. 58, caught in St. Kilda Road, will carry marchers from the Shrine to the Club.

A fixed menu, with several choices, has been ordered. Drinks, to be paid individually and separately, will be at bar prices.

The meal will cost $40.00 per head with payment required before the event.

Planned Vietnam Veterans Vigil 3 August 2023

Dear All,

One of the events being planned in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the end of Australia’s involvement in the Vietnam War is a Vigil to be held at gravesites and memorials throughout Australia and overseas on 3 August 2023. This would be a great opportunity for Scheyvillians to pay their respects to our graduates who were Killed in Action and also perhaps to those classmates who have passed since.
Our KIA and their gravesites are;
2LT J. Fraser- Nerang QLD
2LT A.D. Jellie- Pasadena SA
2LT T.E. Langlands- Beresfield NSW
2LT I.G. Mathers- Holland Park QLD
2LT D. Paterson- Pasadena SA
2LT K.P. Rinkin- Taree NSW
2LT G.C.Sharp- Tamworth NSW
2LT L.A.Taylor- Box Hill VIC

In addition, we all know of others who have since passed.

We have several months to prepare. Give some thought to how we might be able to pay due homage to our fallen classmates on 3 Aug.
A Vigil at the gravesites of the above would be the least we could do. Perhaps a commemorative gathering locally afterwards.
More can be found on www.vvv.org.au
A worthwhile endeavour.

Regards
Brian Cooper
National Deputy Chair and Commemoration Liaison
