Dear Duntroon Society (and OTU Members),
Secretary
Gallipoli Scholarship Fund
Dear Scheyvillians, the email below was sent to Wal hall (2/68) concerning the Gallipoli Scholarship Fund. As its goals fall well within those of the OTU Association’s Youth Development initiatives as well as assisting direct descendants of veterans the Fund is considered a most deserving cause. It is highly recommended.
Best wishes,
Frank Miller
Chairman, OTU Association.

Subject: Gallipoli Scholarship Fund: you can make a difference
Dear Old Mates, Friends and Colleagues,
I am writing to ask you to consider promoting the Gallipoli Scholarship Fund (GSF) through your networks – your family, friends and colleagues.
The GSF is a totally voluntary organisation that provides tertiary scholarships to the most deserving and most disadvantaged direct descendants of our Veterans, many of whom are doing it tough. Since 1998 we have awarded over 160 Gallipoli Scholars, most of whom would not have fulfilled their dreams without this assistance. Most of our Scholars have successfully completed their tertiary studies and are pursuing productive careers.
Over recent years we have significantly expanded to provide more opportunities for our Gallipoli Scholars, including an incentive program to help some of our Scholars through their second and third years of tertiary study. This year, we awarded a record number of 30 Gallipoli Scholars from all over Australia. All are direct descendants of our Veterans who have served their country, including seven who are descendants of our Indigenous Veterans.
You can make a real difference in three easy ways:
Our motto says it all: Their Sacrifice … Your Future. As stated in our Strategic Plan on the website, and on the cover of the Gallipoli Scholarship Medallion, the GSF:
“perpetuates among young Australians an understanding of those enduring traditions of perseverance, courage, self-sacrifice and mateship that were established in the cause of world peace at Gallipoli and thereafter on other battlefields and peace operations.”
Each of our Scholars is awarded $6,000 pa, paid in two equal tranches upon proof of continuing academic success. We mentor our Scholars to assist them – and you, too, may also want to become a mentor. As well as a framed Certificate, we also award our Scholars with a Gallipoli Scholarship Medallion and a book on Gallipoli, both provided free of charge by our sponsors.
I have attached a booklet on this year’s Gallipoli Scholars so that you can learn about our practical assistance, and the range of scholarships and bursaries that we provide thanks to our generous supporters.
Please consider promoting and supporting the GSF, and please contact me if you have any queries or suggestions on how we might improve.
Yours in Service,
Mike

Reminder – National Reunion
Dear Scheyvillians, just a reminder of the forthcoming National Reunion scheduled over the weekend 14 – 16 October this year. Coincidentally it matches the 50thanniversary of the final March In of National Servicemen to OTU Scheyville.
The reunion is to be held around the Windsor area and will comprise the following:
Friday 14th October, a formal mixed dinner at the Ted McCabe Function Centre, Hawkesbury Race Club, 1 Racecourse Road, Clarendon, NSW with registration commencing at 6.00 pm.
Saturday 15th October has been set aside for individual class reunions. This provides a wonderful opportunity to catch up with friends made so many years ago.
Sunday 16th October will be a visit to the old camp area at Scheyville National Park from 11 am. There will be a BBQ lunch and refreshments in the quadrangle of the former Officers’ Mess.
Bookings are to be made on an on line facility and will be open from July 2022.
Please put this into your diaries if you haven’t already done so. It promises to be a wonderful weekend that will be a fitting celebration of that special time in our lives over fifty years ago. We look forward to seeing you there.
Dick Adams OAM (3/72) Coordinator.
Frank Miller (4/67), National Chairman.
